MINT-LAB auf Schlössern / in kastelen is an EU funded German-Dutch project, which runs for four years, from 2017 - 2021.
On 144 cross-border experimental days in the Euregio area Gronau, about 3000 pupils from Germany and the Netherlands meet to experiment together.
The aim of the project is to get to know the neighbour, to promote language skills and to get young people between 12 and 16 years enthusiastic about the MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology). At the same time, local companies can generate qualified young talents across borders.
Castles, palaces and historic sites serve as venues. New energies, flight and flying, water analysis and cosmetics are some of the topics the young people will deal with. Tours through the historic meeting places round off the experimental day. A future in Europe can only be shaped if we know our common roots and appreciate our cultural heritage.
By working together in tandems, the young people get to know each other personally, are animated to learn the neighbouring language and at the same time awaken their interest in science and technology.
"The boundaries fall, because of the experiments we share a common mission that can only be accomplished as a team. While working one will discover similarities and forget about language barriers". (Quote from a student)
"It's amazing how quickly contacts have been made here. Many students have stayed in contact through the social media over the two months until the next project day. When we arrived in Doetinchen, there were no more German or Dutch students, but a large group that was looking forward to the next adventure." (Quote from a teacher)
We are working on turning the project into a self-runner after the end of the project phase.
