On the second weekend of Advent, the square around the Zions community in Eckardtsheim is transformed into a sea of atmospheric lights with numerous visitors between varied Christmas market stalls. In addition to a wide range of handicrafts, social organisations can be found there as well. The Andreas -Mohn-Foundation has also been represented here for several years with a raffle for the benefit of the children in Bielefeld. In our small wooden hut we will be exhibiting up to 6,000 prizes during this weekend. There are donations in goods which the foundation received in advance from generous companies in the region.
From various toys to sweet treats, exciting thrillers to vouchers for events and restaurant visits, many different prizes are offered. As a result, there is an interesting prize for every visitor to the Christmas market - but of course a little luck is also part of it if you want to draw the right number out of 6,000 lots. Visitors to the Christmas market enjoy drawing lots, so that, due to the great interest shown, all lots for a good cause are usually selected from the colourfully decorated lottery ticket glasses. Every year, this allows us to fulfil a Christmas wish for the children whose families regularly visit the Bielefelder Tafel. Due to the high willingness of the companies and the Christmas market visitors to make donations, we can also realize other projects for children in Bielefeld.
For instance, several children from social institutions have already been able to attend the Bielefeld Christmas fairy tale, the PIA meeting in Bielefeld-Heideblümchen gets fresh, homemade and healthy smoothies every year for the summer party, a handicraft afternoon with the artist Antonio Ugia has already been organised there and we were also able to organise a fairy tale afternoon for the children of the Bielefeld Tafel. The work of the Sterntaler e.V. association is also supported by the foundation through the proceeds of the tombola.
